Rozzie's oldest mural is probably the one on the side of the old trolley substation at Washington and Poplar streets - it dates back to the '70s (and it shows). The MBTA was going to sell the substation to a Hyde Park garage owner, but is now reconsidering due to neighborhood concerns about what he'll actually do with the building.
I remeber walking by this building as a child. I always thought it was so huge and could never really fiquere out what was inside. I use to love to walk on the brick wall across the street at the post office. My mom would hold my hand all the way so I would'nt fall. I loved my childhood in Roslindale.

wow. i was born in rozzie and driving past that mural every day was one of my first memories (the other memorable mural being the Indians attacking each other near my grandma's house on Centre St. in JP). I remember always thinking that it was a picture of three majestic lions, but looking back on the faded picture two decades later I realize I was completely off. The funny thing is I lived up the street again from '98-'02 and still walked by thinking it was the same mural i remembered from my youth. This website picture is the first time I've really LOOKED at it and realized it's entirely different from the lions I saw as a five-year-old.

Its funny, I drive by these a lot and I always think it looks like a bum in a thong- especially the middle picture.
