The complete neon name of this Centre Street liquor store is Eliot's Macys Liquors, perhaps to eliminate any confusion with the better known department store, perhaps to eliminate any confusion with the other liquor store in Allston that used to be called Macy's until the department store told them to knock it off. The waving chicken had been beckoning travelers on the VFW Parkway (which some of you might remember as Rte. 1) in West Roxbury for ages. One guess what Fontaine's served until it closed in late August, 2004 (to be replaced by some sort of yuppie place).

The Continental Shoppe

The Continental Shoppe sells pet supplies on Centre Street in West Roxbury (right between Yoo Hoo's ice cream and the Tai Ho Chinese restaurant - a neon smorgasbord of light). The flamingo in the photo is actually on a wall at the rear of the shoppe.
