Potty platta

You go downna Stah deli counta to order one of these when you're having a potty. Yes, yes, it's really "pahty platta," but darnit, if you're not from around here, the first time you ever hear somebody say it, it sounds like "potty platta." Joanie Wexler, a Chicago native, still recalls in amazement the first time somebody invited her to "go potty."

You're kidding! Chicago pronounces words with "ar" like "party" almost identical to the "Boston"/New England pronunciation.

It soooo doesn't sound like Potty when a New Englander says pahty, if people would just listen. I am soooo tired of this lame comment...

I grew up in Bedfid and Buhricka and then I moved to Santa Clara, California and went up to some kids and asked, "wheah's the pahty?" Yeah, they thought I said potty.
