In more rural parts, with bigger yards, piazzas often extend around 2 sides of the house, one side faces the road,(seldon used)the other faces your neighbor (always used).

My motha grew up in JP and she always says " Put it out on the "pee-yahza" It was the unheated closed in back porch at her Ahnt's house. That's where we stowah the tawnic and mixers that can't fit in the fridge.
