Jamaica Plain

Midway Cafe
3496 Washington St.

Any day of the week, JP's rough and tumble townies can get together and dance badly, listen to a band that no one has ever heard of, or just watch hockey or wrestling at the Midway. Thursday is Dyke Night, where the ladies meet and get bawdy. These aren't the lesbians you see in pornos, these are the real deal and if you mess with one (or her girl) you'll quickly regret it, and probably find yourself running from a large angry rugby team. It's small, dark, smoky and a little intimidating. If you're dressed up (even if it's just designer jeans) prepare to feel uncomfortable, this is a working class joint. So if you check your pretentiousness at the door, this place is a great time.
