The Boston Online Q&A
Software Tool & Die of Brookline,
which runs the World public-access Internet site, provides the server
space and Internet connectivity as a community service. Adam Gaffin does the HTML coding and resource
organizing. And scores of people and companies across New England
provide the ever growing number of increasingly valuable information
resources you'll find linked on Boston Online.
Send a note to me at adamg@world.std.com with the site
name and URL. The main criterion is whether the site has any connection
to Boston or Massachusetts.
Boston Online's basically something I do in my spare time, so I can't
always get things up as quickly as I might like. Then, too, I'm not the
World's Most Organized Person, so it's depressingly possible I've mis-filed your message, or even deleted it accidentally (yes, that's still
something I manage to do). So send me a note to remind me, and accept my
apologies in advance!

Alas, Boston Online is far from being the Ultimate Boston Answer
Service - from time to time, you may search it for information that
it just doesn't have. If you're lucky, your Internet provider gives you
access to the ne. hierarchy of Usenet newsgroups, where people far more
knowledgeable than me might be able to help. They currently include:
- ne.housing - Finding a place to live.
- ne.weather - More than you'll ever want
to know about our famous weather; some Boston TV weatherpeople are active
participants.
- ne.motss - Gay and lesbian life.
- ne.transportation - Getting from
A to B and a place to discuss the nation's wierdest drivers.
- ne.jobs - Looking for work.
- ne.politics - More than just the
Kennedys.
- ne.food - Food, both of the restaurant and
supermarket ilk.
- ne.general - Everything else.
- ne.general.selected - Where to
go when ne.general gets too ugly (which happens all too often, alas).
But what if you can't get into those newsgroups? Don't discount the
resources of your public library or nearby bookstore -- you'll find a lot
of resources there related to Boston. If worst comes to worse, you can
try sending me e-mail, but being a former New Yorker and all, I can't
guarantee I'll have an answer for you (especially when it comes to
finding a place to live or a good school for your kids).
Yes. Anybody who's worried about the death of regional accents has never
talked to the kids on my block. For more info, see The Wicked Good Guide to Boston English
