Downtown details
One of the cool things about living in a city where many buildings are older than even your parents is the amazing display of artwork built right into the structures. The old adage "they don't make 'em like they used to" really is true when it comes to buildings in downtown Boston. Let's go on a quick tour (you might want to stretch your neck first; many of these will require you to look up).

Neon Boston
Neon. Garish and romantic all at once. The bright light across the blackened sky calls to you, in a 1930s-Rte.-1-motel kind of way; you can almost hear the sizzle as the lights flash on and off. The Boston area is full of great neon signs.

The Boston Outdoor Chair Faire
In many Boston neighborhoods, it's a rite of winter: When the first flakes start to fall, out come the crates, the garbage cans, the sawhorses and the chairs, chairs, chairs, to protect what some residents insist are "their" spaces on the street. Here's a sampling from Roslindale from December, 2003.

Urban ghosts
Boston is full of ghosts, reminders of the city's past that often go completely unnnoticed - unless you take the time to look for these spectres. Chinatown is particularly rich in these sometimes eerie outlines left behind by buildings and companies that no longer exist.
