Roslindale combines urban living with a suburban feel. From the increasingly chi-chi restaurants and boutiques of Roslindale Square (which Chamber of Commerce types call "Roslindale Village") and the close-knit neighborhoods along Washington Street to the single-family homes on Metropolitan and Grew Hills, Roslindale attracts everybody from young parents and immigrants to gay and lesbian couples. The neighborhood is bracketed by trees - from the Arboretum in the north to Stony Brook Reservation to the south. Although the subway doesn't come into Roslindale, downtown is accessible via a commuter-rail stop in Roslindale Square. The Forest Hills T stop is a short ride down Washington Street, either by car (hint: If the station parking lot is full, which it often is, there's a private lot a half block further up Hyde Park Avenue for $5 a day) or by frequent bus service.
